It’s not every day that I get to stand in front of a group of people and say that “we’re here today because I won a bet.” But the terms of this particular wager were just too good to turn down. If, by some miracle, Nebraska had ended up beating BYU, I would have sent ten of America’s finest turkeys, from Norbest turkey farms in Sanpete County, to the Omaha Open Door Mission – a wonderful Gospel Rescue Mission in Omaha, Nebraska. But because the Cougars were victorious over the Cornhuskers, Senator Ben Sasse agreed to buy ten delicious pork loins from Pillen Family Farms in Nebraska for the Utah Food Bank.
A Visit to Job Corps – Clearfield, UT

My staff and I recently had the opportunity to visit Job Corps in Clearfield, Utah. I took this opportunity to tour the Job Corps campus to see their perspective and approach to providing higher education options to at-risk youth along the Wasatch Front. I am grateful to Job Corps and their staff for allowing my staff and I to stop by.

SALT LAKE CITY – Senator Lee announces two upcoming town hall events during the first week of September in Bountiful and Coalville, Utah. On Tuesday, September 1, Senator Lee will be holding a town hall visit at the Woods Cross High School Auditorium, and on Wednesday, September 2, Senator Lee will be stopping by the North Summit High School Auditorium for a town hall meeting in Coalville, Utah. Both town hall visits begin at 7:00pm.
Celebrating Religious Freedom – The Utah National Guard's Sunrise Hall

Last Friday, members of my Salt Lake City office attended a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Utah National Guard’s newly completed Sunrise Hall worship center. As a non-denominational house of worship, Sunrise Hall will be a first-rate spiritual center that will benefit many generations of Utah Soldiers, Airmen, and their families. Located at Camp Williams in Bluffdale, Utah, Sunrise Hall is the culmination of nearly 10 years of development that took Sunrise Hall from concept to completion.
Utah State Parks – Edge of the Cedars

My staff recently had the opportunity to visit Edge of the Cedars State Park Museum and meet with the park’s regional management and staff. Tim Smith, Southern Regional Director of Utah State Parks, Teri Paul, Park Manager, and Jonathan Till, Curator of Collections were gracious to provide my staff with a guided tour of the park’s facilities, exhibits, and special collections. Tim, Teri, and Jonathan are a great example of the important role that local management plays with our public lands.

Organized by Randy Edwards of the American Legion Department of Utah, the Flag Retirement Ceremony provides a dignified and patriotic environment for the disposing of worn and tattered American flags.
Utah Honor Flight – "Their Memorial, Our Mission"

Over the past several weeks, members of my staff in Utah and Washington D.C. were privileged to attend the recent events organized by the Utah Honor Flight. With each event, the Utah Honor Flight provides a send-off ceremony for the veterans, a trip to the National WWII Memorial in Washington, D.C., and a welcome home celebration for the veterans when they return.
